Dragon Ball Heroes is a card focused arcade game released in Eastern Asia. Dark Dragon Balls are red orbs with black stars on them. They are created by an evil version of Dende, and they are scattered across the galaxy. Each dragon ball has latched onto some of the biggest villains in the franchise, giving them a power boost. Once all together, the orbs are used to summon Dark Shenron, who is completely evil, but still grants wishes.
Despite being a Japanese product, a lot of the early elements of Dragon Ball were based on Chinese lore. The first arc of the entire series was based on the Chinese novel Journey to the West , which was about a monk traveling to India and finding some sacred scrolls through his trek. Most of the original cast of Dragon Ball was based on the characters in Journey to the West, and the dragon balls serve as the scrolls the monk is searching for. The entire Earth gets surrounded by black clouds.
Shenron is based on the mythical Chinese dragon, Shenlong. Shenlong is a spiritual dragon who controls the weather. Shenron, in a way, also controls the weather. Every time he is summoned, the entire Earth gets surrounded by black clouds.
The dragon balls are a useful tool for the cast to have. If any character perishes, or a major catastrophe happens, they can just use the dragon balls to wish everything back to normal.
If their creator dies, then the dragon balls, and the Eternal Dragon, cease to exist. The same thing when Guru passed during the Namek Saga, the Namekian dragon balls also became stone and no longer work. Ownership of the Namekian dragon balls can, fortunately, be passed down.
When Dende came to Earth to replace Kami, he had to create his own dragon using what remained of the original Shenron. The dragon balls have always been an easy out for the characters to use. Chaos and destruction became nonissues for the protagonists as they can literally wish all their problems away. It is honestly one of the more frustrating aspects of Dragon Ball , as mortality really loses meaning once the dragon balls were able to pretty much make any wish possible.
Dende apparently turned off the dragon balls and Shenron. It seems like Dende was just as frustrated with Earthlings overreliance on the dragon balls as the fans were.
When Kami and Piccolo became one again, the dragon balls became useless again, as Kami no longer exists. It was good fortune that Dende was able to reuse the old Shenron to make an upgraded version of the Eternal Dragon. If Dende had to rebuild a new dragon from scratch, he claims that it would take about a hundred days. A hundred days seems like a relatively small amount of time to create something so omnipotent.
Shenron and the other Eternal Dragons are not the only dragons within the Dragon Ball universe. Well, at least not in the world of filler in Dragon Ball. All the Shadow Dragons were born because you misused the Dragon Balls, remember? It all started with you - your world is crumbling because of your actions. You were warned about the overuse, but you didn't listen; this is all your fault.
If you feel so bad about it, then maybe death should be your penance. Syn Shenron appears as a large, humanoid, white, black and blue Dragon. Two large, fleshy horns emerge from the top of his head, and a pair of tiny feelers emerge from his upper lip, giving the appearance of a mustache. Long black spikes protrude from his shoulders, elbows, back, and knees.
Two more fleshy spikes protrude from the sides of his chest, and his abdomen and the back of his head are dark blue. The One-Star Dragon Ball is visible on his forehead, sporting the blue color and cracked appearance of all the corrupted Dragon Balls. Being born from one of the strongest and most selfless of wishes, Syn Shenron is the most selfish, uncaring, and evil-hearted of all the Shadow Dragons.
He feels no compassion for any form of life, even destroying his fellow Shadow Dragons if it benefits his ultimate goal of universal destruction. He also enjoys belittling his enemies, reminding the heroes that they are to blame for his existence.
Unlike Nuova, Syn will not fight in a fair match; although his tactics are not quite as underhanded as Eis, he will not wait for an opponent to recover from their injuries. He can become arrogant in times of complete dominance against his opponents, sometimes letting them suffer slowly and mocking them before going for the fatal blow. However, unlike many previous villains, Syn Shenron has no desire to fight a "worthy" opponent; he berates himself for underestimating his foes and actively tries to prevent them from powering up or fusing.
If confronted by a stronger opponent, Syn can be driven to fear and worry, but he usually attempts to hide it as quickly as he can. Yet despite this, he greatly respected Goku as a fighter and considered him to be a worthy challenger.
His proud facade is finally destroyed in his last moments, reducing him to futile pleas for mercy when he realizes that he cannot stop Goku's Super Ultra Spirit Bomb. Syn Shenron was born from the wish made by Mr.
Popo to revive everyone on Namek that was killed at the hands of Frieza and his soldiers. The magnitude of this wish even made Shenron himself wonder if he had the power to grant it. This wish would have produced a tremendous amount of negative energy, most likely the most negative energy of all wishes, accounting for Syn Shenron's overwhelming power and making him the most powerful among the other Dragons. The selflessness of the wish, made to restore Namek's Dragon in order to wish the population away from the dying planet, accounts for his purely evil nature.

Disgusted at the Four-Star Dragon's acts of mercy towards the Saiyan , Syn Shenron uses a sneak attack to dispatch Nuova Shenron before turning his attention to an enraged Goku. Goku criticizes him for killing one of his own kind, but Syn tells him not to criticize his own creation, reminding Goku that he is responsible for the birth of all seven Shadow Dragons due to his overuse of the Dragon Balls. Goku refuses to listen, declaring that he always used the Dragon Balls for the good of the Earth, and never used them once for his own selfish gain.
Dismissing Goku's argument, Syn Shenron engages him in battle, quickly taking the advantage due to Goku having been blinded by Eis Shenron and tired out from his earlier battles with the other Shadow Dragons. Although Goku is able to land a few hits, none of them do any damage even a direct hit from a 10x Kamehameha had no effect , and he is completely dominated by Syn Shenron, who batters him around and ultimately leaves him hanging unconsciously from a fairground tower.
Syn Shenron's next opponent is Majuub, who tries to stall the villain long enough for the Saiyans to lend their energy to Goku.
Although Syn Shenron bests Majuub after a short fight, Goku manages to absorb enough energy from the other Saiyans to break his previous limitations and return to his Super Saiyan 4 state.
Syn Shenron finds himself dominated, even with Goku being blinded, and attempts to ambush his nemesis by throwing a clock face like a sawblade. Even this proved futile, as Goku reversed the attack before blasting Syn Shenron with a 10x Kamehameha. Although injured by the blast, Syn Shenron narrowly evaded the brunt of the attack and hid beneath the rubble of the fallen clock tower to evaluate the situation.
Realizing that the rest of the Dragon Balls were nearby, he performed his secret technique, summoning the other Dragon Balls to him and swallowing them whole. Absorbing the mystical artifacts into his system, Syn Shenron revealed his true form: Omega Shenron, a larger, stronger version of himself with access to all of the abilities of his brethren.
Upon his creation, Omega Shenron first uses the Gigantic Blaze , an attack which blows Goku's family and friends away, turning the immediate surroundings into 'a cemetery', using lifeless ground for cover and the 'ruined buildings as a headstone'. After realizing he is no match for Omega even in his full power Super Saiyan 4 form, Goku begins doubting a victory. Out of nowhere, Goku regains his eyesight and blasts the dragon square in the chest with the 10x Kamehameha.
While Omega attempts to counter the wave, he receives another surprise: Goku powers up and uses his Dragon Hammer , which seems to obliterate Omega. However, Omega survives by regenerating , an ability he gained after absorbing the Dragon Balls, and surprises Goku and friends in their premature celebration. To prove his superiority, Omega Shenron blasts Goku, along with his family and friends, in the air, before striking each of them with intense speed with a single punch or kick.
Goku's family and friends are knocked out cold, while Goku himself can barely stand up to fight, despite his declaration that he would not ever give up. Battered and broken, Goku decides to resort to desperate measures.
He grabs Omega and puts him in an arm lock, preparing a self destruct to kill the dragon; however, the tables are turned when Vegeta arrives on the battle scene. Even when the two Super Saiyan 4's teamed up on Omega, Omega still grossly outclassed them. However, while Omega was distracted, Goku and Vegeta performed the Fusion Dance , and fused into Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta , whose power surpassed Omega Shenron's to the point where he knocked away the Shadow Dragon without even appearing to move.
Infuriated and bewildered, Omega tried several more attacks, but did not even come close to touching his foe. Eventually, the ultimate Shadow Dragon found himself lying face down on the ground from another failed attack, while Gogeta cheekily taunted him.
In return, Omega Shenron blasted Gogeta with numerous energy bullets, only to find that it did absolutely nothing other than get rid of a bothersome crick in Gogeta's neck. Finally ready to begin counterattacking, Gogeta used Ultimate Impact on Omega Shenron, causing him to crash into a building.
Gogeta then frightened Omega Shenron by splitting into five clones and preparing a "devastating attack", which turned out to be the Bluff Kamehameha , angering the dragon even more.

Eventually Future Trunks manages to remember Ace due to the mask Towa had used to brainwash them and sends the current Future Warrior to stop Towa from killing Shenron once they pinpoint the time distortion originates from the Time Scroll of Age The Future Warrior and Future Trunks of Age manage to defeat her forcing Towa to retreat and allowing Future Trunks to make the wish that summons Ace restoring the timeline and causing the memory of Ace's existence to return along with Ace, who aids the Future Warrior when Towa infiltrates the Time Nest and steals Tokitoki 's egg, allowing them to chase after Towa.
Tokitoki encourages her to make the wish as there are a lot of mouths to feed. Old Kai objects to using the Dragon Balls to order take out as he put it, though Beerus counters by stating it is a festive occasion, so Chronoa wishes for enough food to leave everybody stuffed and satisfied, which he grants.
At some point, the 2nd Future Warrior learns how to increase Shenron's power after being told how to by Grand Elder Guru which increases the number and types of wishes he can grant though he can still only grant one wish per summon as it only increases the number of options available. The method Grand Elder Guru teaches them to increase Shenron's power can be utilized by anyone regardless of race and can be performed by Warrior-type Namekians as the Namekian Future Warrior is stated several times to be a Warrior-type.
It is also revealed by Chronoa after the feast that the set of Dragon Balls used by the Time Patrol are one of the many sets made by Dende which were originally meant to serve as a training reward but have since become a way to get unlimited wishes which implies that their is no danger of overusing them as they apparently do not have a period of dormancy though it is unclear if Chronoa uses her power over time to accelerate the process or an innate aspect of the Time Patrol's particular Dragon Ball set.
Originally, Shenron could only grant one wish per summoning, until after the Cell Games Saga , where Dende upgraded him to grant three wishes two if multiple people are revived with one of the wishes. Shenron's power is directly linked to capacities of whoever created it i. Kami or Dende. As such, Shenron cannot defeat or kill someone whose own power exceeds the creator and cannot exist without said creator still being alive.
He is unable to restore life to those that have died of natural causes but he can restore a person's youth.
When reviving multiple people at a time, he can only bring back those who have not been dead for more than a year. In Dragon Ball Z , it is revealed that Shenron cannot grant the same wish more than once e. It is revealed that while Shenron has vast awareness and knowledge of all existence and its history, such as the existence and ritual to produce the ancient Super Saiyan God, his insight is not omniscience as he could not tell where the final Super Dragon Ball was as its resided within a different universe from Shenron, making it too far away and too difficult for Shenron's power to locate.
Also, Shenron can only maintain his summoning for a set period of time, regardless of how many wishes it has granted. Gradually, Shenron's form will weaken before finally dispersing until the next summoning. He often shows an air of impatience to those who are slow to wish due to this.
In Dragon Ball Z: Broly - Second Coming , it is suggested that Shenron is capable of granting wishes without actually being summoned, demonstrated by him letting Goku join the battle against Broly. The Shenron grants the J-Pop star and hostess Kuniko Yamada's wish to gain the ability to execute the Kamehameha , which she playfully uses on Shenron.
Shenron also appears in Dr. Shenron appears briefly at the end of Dragonball Evolution , where he is voiced by Christopher Sabat , who also voiced him in the Funimation dub of the anime. After granting Goku's wish, Shenron vanishes, and so do the Dragon Balls.
Shenron appears in nearly all the Dragon Ball video games. Notably, he is a support-type character who automatically revives fallen characters in Dragon Ball Z: Supersonic Warriors 2.
Popo creates his own set of Dragon Balls. Shenron, who has now more limited powers, can basically grant six different wishes. In Dragon Ball Z: Shin Budokai , it is shown that Shenron cannot grant wishes to someone he cannot understand, and that he may leave after a certain amount of time if the person in question does not give the wish under a time limit.
It is also shown that when someone is wished to a certain place for a certain purpose, they cannot leave until it is finished, and forms of translocation like Instant Transmission do not work.
